Map of Venda Homeland

Venda ("world" or "land") is the traditional home of the BaVenda tribe.
Venda was granted internal self-government in 1973 and was one of the four so-called "independent" homelands having been granted independence in 1979 by South Africa. However, this independence was not recognized by any country in the world.
Venda was located in the northeastern corner of the former Transvaal (today's Limpopo Province), with a main part and one main enclave.
It ceased to exist as a political entity on 27. April 1994 and has been incorporated into South Africa.
Its flag and license plates are no longer in use.
